forbidden colours

david created this "online poem" back in 1997 for fun; to see how far one could stretch the then embryonic web-page technology—which was none—for expressiveness.

Last Friday, me friend Anne told me that she enjoyed the stuff I posted into the net during those years, and I shouldn't just let them all be lost to time. So david went digging. This is the only piece extant.

Forbidden Colours was written by Ryuichi Sakamoto and David Sylvian for the soundtrack of the movie Merry Christmas, Mr. Lawrence which has since become a cult-classic for some reason.

As Broadway Cinematique is going to show the movie again in December, thought I might as well revive the piece with a soundtrack.

Forbidden Colours
David Sylvian/Ryuchi Sakamoto

The wounds on your hands

never seem to heal.

I thought all I needed

was to believe...

Here am I,

a lifetime away from

You.

The Blood of Christ

or

the Beat of my Heart.

My love wears forbidden colours.

My life believes.

Senseless years THUNDER by.

Millions
are willing to
give their lives
for

You.

D O E SN O T H I N GL I V EO N?

Learning to cope with feelings aroused in me.
My hands

in the soil,

buried

inside

of

myself.

My love wears forbidden colours.

My life believes in youonce again.
circle
while
doubting

the very ground beneath me;

trying
to
show

unquestioning

faith
in
everything.
Here
am
I,

a lifetime
a
w
a
y
from you.

The Blood of Christ

or

a Change of Heart.

My love wears
forbidden colours.
My life
believes.

My love wears
forbidden colours.
My life believes in you

once again.
